"Big Choice"
2008
Found object, blown glass, fabric
8'x4'x3'
“Big Choice” originated as a full sized arcade game commonly known as “The Claw Machine” or “The Crane”, usually found in cheap arcades and diners. Familiar to many, it is a 7-foot high, 4-foot wide glass-encased display with working claw and joystick. These machines were usually filled with a variety of prizes such as stuffed animals or small toys. In the “Big Choice” I have been building
the mirrored back wall of the encasement reflects the new contents of the machine - hand blown glass fetuses. Each 7”x 4” sculpture is either pink or blue and has been specifically designed for use in this machine. One hundred fifty of these fetus shaped gender-specific prizes are up for grabs and constitute the viewers “Big Choice”.
