Final room of a three-part installation entitled 'La-Bas (Down There)' shown at Sugar City, Buffalo, NY in March 2010.
The installation illustrates a series of seemingly disjointed, illogical spaces, utilizing portions of myth, narrative, material memory, and the physical immersion of the viewer into the work, to piece together the connection between spaces, and to uncover the latent ‘meaning’ or ‘order’ of the structures themselves.
The subterranean themes conjure the aestehtic mileu of 19thC mining shafts combined with elements of the classical Greek myth of Persephone. The final video image portrays a female pulling apart a pomegranate in reverse so that it appears she is re-asseembling the object.
