Gastroliths
2010
OIl stick on canvas
60" x 48"
In a natural history museum, I saw a glass case with a couple of ribs and pelvis of a small dinosaur, and a bunch of what looked like little pebbles. The sign said: "gastroliths." Apparently, dinosaurs swallowed stones to help them with their digestion. I like to think of the gastroliths as "fossilized undigested material," and about how that can be understood for human beings and our psychology. Thus, this is my image of what an xray might reveal if some of the realities of life that I have trouble "digesting" were to be visible as "fossilized undigested material."
