Lida Suchy is photographer who chronicles communities through portraiture.
For this work she was awarded a 2010 Light Work Grant in Photography; a NYSCA Individual Artists Grant (2008); and a CEC ArtsLink Grant (1996). Lida is a first generation American born into a refugee family from Eastern Europe. She often draws on this background as inspiration for her work. She received her BA from SUNY Albany and her MFA from the Yale School of Art. Lida has exhibited in galleries and museums in the USA and Europe including The Photographers Gallery, London; Grauwert Gallery, Hamburg, Germany; The Washington Project for the Arts, Washington, DC; and SF MoMA. Her work was published in LIFE Magazine, National Geographic, and GEO and can be found in pubic collections including George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film; Brooklyn Museum; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; and SF MoMA.
