K. Velis Turan is a visual artist working in mixed media fiber. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She worked as a graphic artist at Harper & Row Publishers and went on to become the art director of a monthly publication in Washington, DC. She has done illustration for magazines and publications. Twelve years ago she turned her attention to quilting. After making a few traditional quilts she started making art quilts.

She now explores surface design techniques which include silk screen printing, fabric painting, photo transfer, stitching and embellishing the whole cloth surface of her work.
