My work is a hybrid of sculpture and painting. The opportunity to combine wood, metal, canvas or paper with color allows me to respond to an idea or image more consciously. I attend to the methods of connection between different materials, and prefer primitive, visible connections like nailing or sewing.
I use movement, both implied and real, as a way to see more clearly. Because my suburban upbringing was overgrown with contradictions, I learned to change position and shift perspective in order to understand the different sides of an issue. Familiar objects are the main characters in my work. The human presence is secondary and exists only as one element of the environment.
